There’s the chance to get creative in the short and long-term at Helmsley Walled Garden by coming to a unique course in Creativity and Mindfulness run by Dr. Lauri Bower of York MBSR and Helmsley Walled Garden’s artist-in-residence Clare Belbin. The short course is running on Saturday June 17th and Sunday June 18th, from 09.30 until 16.30: participants can book for Saturday only or both days. There is also a longer course running for eight weeks starting on 26th September 2017.
Courses are open to all, no experience is needed and all levels of creativity are welcome. The garden provides the setting for exploring participants relationship with nature through words and images. The course will be taught by Dr. Lauri Bower who has thirty years of meditation practice and 15 years of running and organising retreats and workshops As well as having a Ph.D. in Mindfulness and Engaged Buddhism she is also highly creative with interests in embroidery, calligraphy and bookbinding amongst others. Leading the drawing side of the workshop is Clare Belbin, she studied fine Art at Newcastle University and completed her postgraduate in drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art.
Dr. Bower said ” ‘These courses are suitable for anyone who wishes to explore mindfulness as a fresh approach to creativity. Tuition is provided in mindfulness as well as the craft skills of drawing and poetry. Beginners and the terrified are all welcome!’ “
