Northern Fruits - Yorkshire Apple Collection
HWG hosts the Northern Fruit Group's collection of old apple varieties. The first collection planted in 2001 consists of 52 varieties of Yorkshire Apples, kindly donated by Hilary Wilson of Tebay.

Planted around the perimeter of the Millenium vegetable garden and trained as espaliers, cordons and stepovers. Stool beds and further plantings continue.

Workshops are run by the Northern Fruit Group at HWG and at nearby Nunnington Hall (details will be posted on the events page).

Victorian Vines
Visit our cafe and you will be sat underneath our Victorian Vine collection in our fully restored Victorian vinery. They were donated by Stuart Smith, a member of the Northern fruit group. Some examples are:

Outdoor Vines
We have an outdoor vineyard of 5 white varieties and one red. They are trained along wires in the double guyer method. They are modern varieties that we are trialing to see how they do in the north.
