Helmsley Walled Garden welcomes school visits and has recently added this provision, in the hope that it can offer a positive horticultural experience to support Science in the National Curriculum. There is a wealth of resources at your disposal and at present it can offer the following programmes:-
KS1 – Growing plants and basic conditions for growth (Unit 1B)
KS2 – Plants for food, the root system and importance of leaves (Unit 3B) Y3/4
KS2 – Reproduction, seed dispersal, fruits/flowers etc. (Unit 5B) Y5/6
Other aspects of horticulture can be covered, depending on the season. If you have a particular need, we can tailor it to suit you. At present, we have no specific programmes for KS3, but if you tell us what you require, we have personnel with the knowledge and expertise to cater for the more complex aspects of this subject.
The cost is £4 per child – teachers/helpers are free of charge.
