It’s wonderful to have you back with us and we want you to enjoy your visit.

If you are buying a ticket, we’re asking that you book in advance. Tickets can be booked up to two weeks in advance of your visit.

If you are an RHS member visiting on a Friday, a Friend of Helmsley Walled Garden or have a resident’s pass – you do not need to book.

Please click here to BUY TICKETS – select a day and complete the booking process. You will receive an email with your booking confirmation and also a QR code to your smart phone if you have one. 

Please allow 24 hours for your booking confirmation email to come through.

There is no parking for visitors at the garden. Please do not park in the lane leading to the garden. Do not park anywhere on the property adjacent to us. This is private property and it disturbs our neighbours. Please park in the Cleveland Way Pay and Display car park and make your way to the garden via the footpath.

There is limited parking (three spaces) for Blue Badge holders.

If you are unwell or experiencing symptoms of Covid-19, please do not visit.



Garden opening times

The garden is open from Thursday to Sunday  from 10am to 5pm, last entry 4.30pm.

The Vine House Café opening times

The Vine House Café is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm.

Shop and Plant Centre

The garden shop is currently closed, the Plant Centre is open – card payments only please.

Your health and safety is important and we do ask that you ensure that you are aware of the latest government advice and please follow our simple safety measures:

  • Stay within household groups during your visit
  • Wash your hands frequently for at least twenty seconds
  • Wear a face covering in any situation where you feel the required social distancing may not be possible for any reason
  • You will see our volunteers around the garden. They will be identifiable by their hi-visibility jackets. For your safety and theirs, please maintain appropriate social distancing when talking to them


We have implemented the following measures to help keep visitors safe:

  • Separate entry and exit points
  • Hand sanitiser points
  • A one-way system around the garden.


Frequently Asked Questions

How are you keeping things clean?

The toilets will be cleaned on a regular basis. We ask that you make use of the anti-bacterial hand wash available.

Which areas can we explore?

We have a one-way system in force . Follow the arrows round the garden to explore it fully and help to maintain safe distancing from other visitors.

Is the shop and Plant Centre open?

The shop is closed for the present. The Plant Centre is open.

Can we use cash?

We ask for all payments to be made by card if at all possible.

Are there plenty of places to sit?

Yes, there are benches all around the garden for you to sit and take in the view, for quiet contemplation or to chat with a family member or friend.

Is there anywhere to have a picnic?

Yes, we have a picnic lawn with benches or you can bring a picnic blanket.

Is The Vine House Café open?

Yes, The Vine House Café is open from Thursday to Sunday from 10am till 5pm with last orders at 4.30pm.

Can we bring our dog?

Absolutely, well-behaved dogs on leads are always welcome.

Can we smoke?

We have a strict no-smoking policy in all areas of the garden which includes e-cigarettes
