Friday 31st January – Film and Fizz at 7pm
A chance to see the 1993 film of The Secret Garden at Helmsley Arts Centre, maybe take home a prize from the raffle and enjoy a glass of fizz and nibbles. All proceeds from the event will go to support the work of Helmsley Walled Garden.

Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th March – Free Entry to the Garden
A chance to have a look round Helmsley Walled Garden before we open on Monday 30th March. It’s also the chance for holders of our residents Passes expiring in April 2020 to renew and for anyone who lives nearby to check if they fall within the free pass radius. More details at the Kiosk.
Saturday and Sunday 25th and 26th April – Birds, beasts and bugs
The return of our popular wildlife weekend here at Helmsley Walled Garden. Organisations such as RSPB, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and Bumble Bee Conservation Trust will be around the garden with information and activities for all.
We want to celebrate just how much wildlife is in our garden and get everyone thinking about and looking for what’s in their gardens. So this is a great opportunity to find out more and get involved.

Friday 29th to Sunday 31st May – The Secret Garden Weekend
To celebrate the release of the latest film version of The Secret Garden, Helmsley Walled Garden and Helmsley Arts centre are joining forces to present a weekend of themed events. The Arts Centre will show the film every evening over the three days. There will also be readings from the book throughout the weekend in the Alphabet Garden.
Normal admission charges apply.

Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June – Iris and Peony
A celebration of two of our newly planted areas. The Iris Border along the east wall and the Peonies incorporated within the new plantings of the Long Border are the focus of the weekend.
The new peony plantings were the favourite flower of Alison Ticehurst who began the restoration of the Garden and its ethos of therapeutic horticulture. The planting is a tribute to her memory and her vision.

Saturday 18th July – National Town Criers’ Competition
A return to the Garden of the hugely enjoyable Town Criers’ Competition. Come and enjoy a very English tradition with both the criers and their consorts in full traditional dress being put through this paces by the judges to see who will win the coveted title. Our own Helmsley Crier must surely be in with a chance and we will be wishing him well.

Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October – Apple weekend
Join us for our annual celebration of all things apple. We will be sharing the stories of some of our best loved apples as well as how the apple came to Britain. There will be pruning demonstrations, apple tastings, an apple-facts trail, quizzes and activities for all the family. This is your annual chance to find out more about the nation’s favourite fruit and find out more of what we do with our amazing apples here at Helmsley Walled Garden.
